La Pizza Fresca Ristorante
Last Saturday we felt like pizza. La Pizza Fresca is only a short walk away from us so we decided to go for an early dinner around 6:30 PM. Restaurant was pretty much empty at this time so we easily got a table without a reservation. Luckily pizza chef Alejandro Rivas or Alex (the chef behind the authentic Neapolitan pizza that La Pizza Fresca is known for) was front of the brick oven pizza which is a good sign if you want to order pizza. Last couple of times when he was out for personal reasons, we couldn't order any pizza so we had to choose a pasta and an entree which were equally good but when you set your mind for pizza, you do get disappointed.
We started with a bottle of red wine from their everyday wine list which is a list of wines under $75.00. They are decent wines mainly from Italy and they go quiet nicely with your pizza. If you desire a better wine then you can choose a fine bottle of wine from their long list of wines. For appetizer we decided on Mozzarella di Bufala con Prosciutto and half portion of the Risotto Frutti di Mari. For our main course we ordered the Prosciutto di Parma and “La Pizza Fresca” pizza. All very good and delicious. Pizza is made in the brick wood-burning oven so you do get a taste of the smokiness but the dough is simply amazing and as good as their tomato sauce.
To finish up we shared a Tiramisu and two cappuccinos. Total bill including a bottle of wine, bottle water, food, tax and tip came out to $210.00. It's not like your regular pizza joint, is it? But once in a while it's worth the extra cost.
On the weekends, specially on Sunday a lot of families with children come to the restaurant so it may be noisy. One last point from our last visit, pizza chef Alex was watching a portable TV front of the oven so it was kind of annoying to listen to the TV along with the Sinatra from the sound system. Alex, you may not be busy all the time but turn-off the TV for the clients' sake.
Pros: Extensive Italian wine selection. Authentic Neapolitan style pizza. Good service.
Cons: Every so often pizza chef is not available so you can't order any pizza. Noise from the chef's portable TV.
